Kontex Announce Support to 1st Port of Dublin Sea Scouts

Kontex are delighted to announce our support to the 1st Port of Dublin Sea Scouts in Ringsend with a €5,000 donation to assist the purchase of much needed equipment as they experience a downturn in financial support as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Donnachadha Reynolds, Skipper at 1st Port of Dublin Sea Scouts, explains  “As a result of the pandemic, 1st Port Sea Scouts, like many other organisations around Ireland, are struggling to maintain funds, becoming  reliant on donations and grants. We also face another issue, separate from commercial difficulties. As we are based in the middle of the city, unlike any other group of sea scouts around Ireland, we are unable to use any form of entry level sailing boats. Our main body of water straddles the shipping lane at Dublin port, so we are left with limited to no choice but to use medium or large sailing vehicles for the open waters of Dublin Bay.  These significant additional financial challenges have put our organisation into life support.  The Sea Scouts in Ringsend have operated here since 1912 and it’s with generous donations from companies like Kontex that will enable us to continue our legacy of developing the young people to be tomorrow’s leaders through adventure and learning.”

Earlier this year Kontex set up a CSR programme called Kontex Aware. For anyone in  cyber security circles they will have heard of the term Context Aware, but this play on words has a very important message.

We believe we have built a great company, with that comes a greater responsibility. Kontex Aware, was formed out of our awareness of this responsibility, awareness of the community around us, the environment around us, the diversity around us and a variety of societal issues that deserves our acknowledgement, our advocacy and our support.  In this programme Kontex actively pledges support to various charities but with particular attention to our youth.

Kontex Director Frank Renehan said “We’re delighted to be able to support the great work that is carried out at Ringsend 1st Port of Dublin Sea Scouts. With Scouting Ireland positively impacting the lives of nearly 40,000 young people a year, developing their future and offering alternative hobbies, we feel ardent to offer a helping hand in maintaining and improving their facilities.”

A big thank you to Don and Lucy from Ringsend 1stPort Sea Scouts who showed their appreciation in the most fun and exciting way!  They kindly gave some of our team a break from their laptops to take them out to sea in a boat powered by the Yamaha engine they purchased with our donation. A great afternoon was had!
